ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ AHEC Welcomes New Program Director, Dr. Christopher T. Owens

The ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is pleased to announce Dr. Christopher T. Owens, PharmD, MPH, as the new Program Director as of August 2024.
Owens brings a wealth of experience in health care education, public health, and ethics to his new role. In addition to his leadership at ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ AHEC, he serves as the Associate Vice President for Health Sciences at ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ, Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the L.S. Skaggs College of Pharmacy, and holds a joint appointment in the ISU School of Nursing. With over 20 years of experience in teaching, clinical practice, and publishing on healthcare topics such as pharmacotherapy, ethics, and public health, Owens has been a key player in advancing interprofessional education. He has collaborated extensively with the ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ College of Osteopathic Medicine and has a long history of service with ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ Medicaid and the Southeastern ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ Medical Reserve Corps.
Owens is passionate about improving health care access and training in rural and underserved areas. His leadership will be instrumental in driving ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ AHEC’s mission to address healthcare disparities and strengthen the healthcare workforce across the state.
