Notice of Fall Fire Evacuation Drills
August 27, 2025
The Department of Public Safety is committed to making sure our students have a safe place to learn, study, and grow. Our dedicated staff work hard to ensure faculty, staff, and students have the training and resources they need to effectively prepare for and respond to emergency situations.
One way we help prepare our community for emergency situations is by conducting fire drill evacuations. The number of evacuation drills per year varies based on building occupancy. For example, students in Meridian can expect to practice evacuation drills monthly in conjunction with Renaissance High School. Students living in campus apartments and residence halls practice four times a year. All other buildings conduct an evacuation annually.
Over the next few weeks, we will be conducting the annual evacuation drills in buildings where students may be attending a class, working in a lab, or participating in some other activity. For students who have special needs or concerns or may require assistance during an evacuation, please call Disability Services at 208-282-3599. If you hear a fire alarm, please treat it like a real emergency and promptly exit the building. An all-clear will be provided by Public Safety when it is safe to re-enter the building.
Here are some helpful tips if you are attending a class or an activity and hear the fire alarm sound:
- Remain calm and immediately go to the nearest exit.
- Avoid using elevators, even during fire drills. If you require assistance during the evacuation, wait at the nearest Area of Rescue or near a stairway for assistance from a public safety official.
- Follow all instructions provided by the staff, faculty, and first responders who are trained to assist you.
- You can use the to find the closest assembly point. It's also available on our free Rave Guardian Safety App.
- Wait at the assembly area for instructions, and do not re-enter the building until you are told to.
Your safety is our top priority, and we want to ensure you have the tools available to help you navigate emergency situations.
