Southeast ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Retired Educators Association Donated Record-Breaking Scholarship to College of Education
September 11, 2025
The Southeast ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Retired Educators Association (SEIREA) donated a record-breaking $6,000 in scholarships to the ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ College of Education last February. This gift funded six $1,000 scholarships for education students studying to become teachers in ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ, and the scholarships were awarded for the Fall 2025 semester.
SEIREA is a network of retired Southeast ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ educators who are committed to serving those in need in the community and providing opportunities to future educators. Historically, SEIREA and the ISU College of Education have worked closely together to benefit teachers and educators across Southeast ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ.
A large replica of the check was presented to ISU President Robert W. Wagner and Executive Director of Development Tabatha Butler during a luncheon hosted by SEIREA.
“We are so grateful for the partnership we have with the Southeast ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Retired Educators Association,” said College of Education Interim Dean Esther Ntuli. “Their dedication to supporting future educators is a testament to their commitment to teaching.”
Funds for the scholarships were raised through SEIREA’s annual silent auction, raffle baskets and generous member contributions. This donation marks the largest scholarship check in SEIREA’s recent history.
“We are excited to support ISU students preparing to enter the teaching field. Each of us has benefited from ISU in some way—whether by earning our degrees or through professional development—and we know ISU has always been a strong partner for teachers,” said Kent Hobbs, SEIREA president.
During the luncheon, President Wagner also addressed attendees and outlined four pillars guiding ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ’s vision for the future: access, impact, collaboration and bold action.
By investing in scholarships, SEIREA has reinforced the importance of supporting students who will go on to teach and inspire. Their generosity serves as a reminder that together, communities can make a profound impact on the future of education in ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ.
