Do you want to level-up your job skills and knowledge? Don't miss your chance to apply for the Staff Council Professional Development Award. The financial award can help pay for opportunities that help ISU employees learn new skills or improve job performance. This can include fees for workshops, conferences, classes, training, or related travel expenses. To apply, you must be a full-time ISU classified or non-classified staff member who has completed at least six months of service by the time the event takes place. Historically, individuals have applied and been awarded, but the committee would also consider helping fund training or workshops for groups. 

The most recent winners were Amy Commendador and Marc Pino. Commendador is the Head of Collections and Registration at the 蜜桃视频 Museum of Natural History. She used the award to help pay for archives training from the Northern States Conservation Center. Pino is ISU’s Director of Public Safety. Pino used the award to help fund his attendance at the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators Annual Conference. 

More about the Staff Council Professional Development Award

The purpose of the award is to invest in people. ISU employs a wide variety of job types and Staff Council wants to support the professional development of the people who help make the institution function. Staff Council commits money each fiscal year for the program. This year it has allocated $3,000. There are three funding opportunities per year, essentially aligning with the fall, spring, and summer academic semesters. Staff must find and present their own professional development opportunity and justify its benefit. The only real restriction is the funds cannot pay for academic credits. The maximum amount an individual can receive is $500. The application process and decisions are administered by the Professional Development Committee, which is made up of Staff Council Members who volunteer their time and efforts.

The next funding period is for opportunities occurring between September 1, and December 31, 2025. The deadline to apply for funds in this period is August 1, 2025.
